Radio Dechovka (via Libeznice u Prahy)

Radio Dechovka, transmitting form Libeznice u Prahy, was logged on 30th of July, 2015. via SDR receiver located in Enschede, about 21:10 - 21:28 UTC at 1233 kHz.

SINPO of Radio Dechovka at that time was 32453, understandable interference with other stations, because all of a sudden, MW bands get lovely in the evenings.

Anyway, those 18 minutes of pretty good quality contained some good, catchy pieces. I am actually known with brass music in Czech Republic, especially because, here, especially in the region Međimurje, have somethng that looks like it. Croatia is famous for keeping those traditions alive. Maybe, if someone from the West would listen to it, he would not personally enjoy it, but when you live in count(r)y that is actually filled with traditions like it.

Starobrnenska Dvanastka, group of 12 people which come somewhere from Brno, Czech Republic are noted to play brass music like it is usually heard on Radio Dechovka.

(but I don't listen to that so much, I listen to indie and rock, in fact)

An eQSL arrived in the e-mail on 14th of October, 2014.

VOA Radiogram, 10.-11. October 2015 (and Mighty KBC's Minute of MFSK32)

Hello friends,

The w1hkj.com site, the usual repository for the Fldigi suite of software, is not working normally due to an apparent attack on the site. Fldigi and the Fldigi suite of software are still available here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/fldigi/files/

VOA Radiogram this weekend will use our usual MFSK32 mode, but if reception is poor, one VOA News item is in the especially robust Olivia 32-2000 mode.

Here is the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 132, 10-11 October 2015, all in MFSK32 except where noted:

1:34 Program preview
2:45 European court strikes down US data treaty*
7:49 Russia complicates US pivot to Asia*
15:03 Texting may hamper girls' high school academics*
22:22 Olivia 32-2000: Hamburgers for Russian cosmonauts?**
26:51 MFSK32: Closing announcements*
28:24 Olivia 64-2000: Transmission schedule

* with image

** the RSID should change the mode automatically to Olivia 32-2000, but if it doesn't: Op Mode > Olivia > Custom > see Bandwidth to 2000 (Hz) and Tones to 32. You can also create a Macro with this: <MODEM:OLIVIA:2000:32>

Please send reception reports to radiogram@voanews.com

VOA Radiogram transmission schedule
(all days and times UTC):

7. great memories to all offshore radio fans

At Radio Mi Amigo International we are ‘Bringing back the Golden Era of Offshore AM Radio’. We try to re-create their wonderful AM sound and music as if they would still be here today. But many of our listeners want to know more: "What did he ships and studio’s look like? Who where the DJ’s? What was life on board a radio ship really like?"

One of our DJ’s, Lion Keezer, worked on board Radio Caroline in the early ’70 and visited many of the other ships as well. Last year he created the iBook ‘Pirate Radio Ship’s in the 70’s (for iPad and Mac’s). A large collection of 430 detailed photographs + audio and video clips, taken on board the pirate radio ships that were active in the 70’s, in all their glory and sometimes during less glorious moments. A personal, insider view of the romantic and inspiring ships that once rocked Europe's airwaves. Featuring: Radio Caroline (3 ships), Radio North Sea International, Radio Veronica, The Peace Ship (with Abie Nathan) and Capital Radio's ship the King David.

For those who remember their sounds or who always wanted to know what these ships were all about, this is the best way to have a good look at them and revisit the Golden Era of Offshore Pirate Radio.

The book can be downloaded from the Apple iBooks Store here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/pirate-radio-ships-in-the-70s/id919352514?mt=11&uo=4
And there is also this website with more information here: www.keezer.nl/radio - or visit Lion’s DJ profile on our website for a direct link to the book ‘Pirate Radio Ships in the 70’s.

More great news to come in the next regular Newsletter around mid-October.

Keep on listening to the golden era of offshore am radio.

kind regards

your Radio Mi Amigo International Team

18:32 Olivia 32-2000: USA Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015*

The program will include some items in Italian, so you will need the UTF-8 character set (Fldigi: Configure > Colors & Fonts) for the accented letters to display correctly. The RSID should automatically change Fldigi to Olivia 32-2000, but if it does not: Op Mode > Olivia > Custom > set Bandwidth to 2000 and Tones to 32.

Bangladesh Betar (via Dhaka)

Bangladesh Betar was logged on 5th of August, 2015. and it was monitored from 18:00 to 18:20 UTC. Frequency of Bangladesh Betar was 13580 kHz, and service was English.

Broadcast was monitored both via Grundig RTV820 HiFi receiver and SDR receiver located in Enschede. Considering propagation was good back then, SINPO was 55555 - perfect.

Various things were monitored, by the time of my listening, female host was reading information and biography of Sheikh Kamal, as well as mentioning stadium named after him and all the contribution he did to cricket of Bangladesh, then identification by female "This is English service of Bangladesh Betar" and contact address was also mentioned. Qur'an singing and translation of the same singing was monitored too! Discussion about Islam started, and it eneded at around 18:20 UTC with the words "May Allah bless you all!"

Reception report was emailed the same day to Bangladesh Betar. QSL postcard, personal letter and badge that ruined QSL and letter a bit arrived in mail on 16th of September, 2015.

Thank you, Bangladesh Betar!

Adventist World Radio (via Moosbrunn)

Adventist World Radio, transmitting via Moosbrunn, was apparently logged on 10th of April, 2015. Or maybe 4th of October, 2015. Who knows?

Anyway, here is the part where it gets really weird. Apparently, I didn't log anything for all the possible dates. I do listen to Moosbrunn broadcasts daily, but I have no idea what reception report was acknowledged?

This could be a mistake, like mistaking someone else's details. Who knows? Well, this one is kind of unique because of wrong report details.

QSL and details for AWR DX Contest arrived in the mail on 14th of September, 2015.

Here is what it says in PDF...

RADIO FREE ASIA RELEASES 19TH ANNIVERSARY QSL

Radio Free Asia (RFA) announces the release of our 19th Anniversary QSL card. RFA’s first
broadcast was in Mandarin on September 29, 1996 at 2100 UTC. RFA is a private, nonprofit
corporation broadcasting news and information to listeners in Asian countries where full,
accurate, and timely news reports are unavailable. Acting as a substitute for indigenous free
media, RFA concentrates coverage on events occurring in and/or affecting Burma, Cambodia,
Laos, North Korea, the People’s Republic of China, and Vietnam. RFA does not express
editorial opinions but provides news, analysis, commentary, and cultural programming in the
languages of the country of broadcast. This is RFA’s 59th QSL design and will be used to
confirm all valid RFA reception reports from August 1-December 31, 2015.

Created by Congress in 1994 and incorporated in 1996, RFA broadcasts in Burmese, Cantonese,
Khmer, Korean to North Korea, Lao, Mandarin (including the Wu dialect), Vietnamese, Tibetan
(Uke, Amdo, and Kham), and Uyghur. RFA strives for accuracy, balance, and fairness in its
editorial content. As a ‘surrogate’ broadcaster, RFA provides news and commentary specific to
each of its target countries, acting as the free press these countries lack. RFA broadcasts only in
local languages and dialects, and most of its broadcasts comprise news of specific local interest.
More information about Radio Free Asia, including our current broadcast frequency schedule, is
available at www.rfa.org.

RFA encourages listeners to submit reception reports. Reception reports are valuable to RFA as
they help us evaluate the signal strength and quality of our transmissions. RFA confirms all
accurate reception reports by mailing a QSL card to the listener. RFA welcomes all reception
report submissions at http://techweb.rfa.org (follow the QSL REPORTS link) not only from
DX’ers, but also from its general listening audience. If you have a smart phone, feel free to use
the QR code below to access our main website for the latest news and information from Radio

VOA Radiogram, Program 128, 12-13 of September, 2015.

Hello friends,

This weekend's VOA Radiogram will include nearly nine minutes of Olivia 32-2000. The Olivia 32-2000 mode is about 50 words per minute and is useful when reception is difficult. If reception is good this weekend, you can perhaps create difficult reception by using an inexpensive radio.

The Fldigi RxID should be on (green) and will probably detect the Olivia 32-2000 mode from the RSID. If it does not: Op Mode > Olivia > Custom > Bandwidth=2000, Tones=32.

The non-Latin alphabet of the week is Chinese. If you use Fldigi, make sure that Configure > Colors & Fonts > Rx/TX Character set is set to UTF-8. The Chinese should also display correctly with the AndFlmsg Android app version 1.2, which now has UTF-8 support.

Any photos of decoding using an inexpensive radio next to an Android phone or tablet (or next to a Windows/iOS laptop) would be helpful.

If it is convenient, I would also appreciate mp3 recordings of the Olivia 32-2000 in difficult reception conditions.

After the closing announcements will be two images, one immediately following the other. Fldigi automatically saves decoded MFSK images as png files in the folder \fldigi.files\images\. (Other operating systems may have different folder names.) You can attach those png files to your reception report. In Android, the MFSK images are stored in the folder NBEMS.files/NBEMS-Images.

Here is the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 128, 12-13 September 2015, all in MFSK32 except where noted:

1:36 Program preview
2:50 Most distant galaxy seen from earth (orbit)*
7:41 Boeing opens spaceship plant in Florida*
14:55 Olivia 32-2000: China to far side of moon
18:27 Olivia 32-2000: Chinese text from VOA Chinese
23:41 MFSK32: Closing announcements*
28:21 Olivia 64-2000: Transmission schedule
* with image

Please send reception reports to radiogram@voanews.com.

VOA Radiogram transmission schedule
(all days and times UTC):
Sat 0930-1000 5745 kHz
Sat 1600-1630 17870 kHz
Sun 0230-0300 5745 kHz
Sun 1930-2000 15670 kHz
All via the Edward R. Murrow transmitting station in North Carolina.

The Mighty KBC will transmit a minute of MFSK64 Sunday at 0230 UTC (Saturday 10:30 pm EDT) on 7375 kHz, via Germany. This is part of the KBC transmission to North America Sundays at 0000-0300 UTC on 7375 kHz. Reports for this KBC transmission to Eric: themightykbc@gmail.com

Thank you for your reception reports and recordings from last weekend's VOA Radiogram. I'm now putting together a gallery of the MFSK 16, 32, 63, and SSTV images from program 122, so I still have some catching up to do.

I hope you can tune in and write in this weekend.

Radio Slovakia International's email addresses

It is quite difficult to find names of some sections of Radio Slovakia International, so you have no idea who should get your reception reports.

However, when trying to submit reception report of Radio Slovakia International, French service, Gavin Shoebridge, part of the RSI English Section, responded me and he kindly provided all of the email addresses.

The big problem is that not every section has its email address on their page, so he, as I said previously said, kindly provided email addresses.

Here is a list of them.

englishsection@slovakradio.sk       - English section
rsi_french@slovakradio.sk             -  French section
german_rsi@slovakradio.sk           - German section

Happy DX-ing!

NHK World Radio Japan (via Issoudun)

NHK World Radio Japan, transmitting from Issoudun, was logged on 8th of July, 2015. It was monitored from 9:20 - 9:40 UTC, and it was on 15290 kHz.

As Issoudun is relatively close to my QTH (maybe 1500 km or so), and it uses the power of 500 kW, it is pretty much logical that SINPO would be 55555.

Various talk and commentary on Japanese was observed during my listening. Reception report was emailed the same day.

QSL Card arrived in the mail on 8th of September, 2015. Thanks, NHK people!

e-Mail : nhkworld@nhk.jp

Nice QSL Card (2nd one in my NHK QSL collection)

Voice of Turkey (via Emirler)

Voice of Turkey, transmitting via Emirler, was logged on 2nd of August, 2015. It was monitored from 17:50 to 18:06 UTC (really had no time then, but I've had to listen to them), on 9480 kHz. The programme broadcasted was on Turkish language.

The signal was well recepted both in Croatia and Netherlands, giving a SINPO of 55555 - excellent signal on all accounts. No noise problems, no anything that could make this station stop broadcasting at the same quality it always does!

Classical Turkish music with baglama tunes was heard, male singing, female voice announcing the second song then, which was totally different to one heard before - this one was kind of modern, pop/rock song. As always, time ticks for 18:00 UTC were heard, and then, there were news. News were read by a male announcer, from paper, because moving papers after the news were read was also heard. (Actually, really nice to see someone using paper during broadcasting!) Later, at 18:06 UTC, dance song was heard, which was possibly the intro to the show after that.

Reception report was emailed the same day. QSL card, schedule for Voice of Turkey and...something, arrived in the mail on 8th of September, 2015. Many thanks, VOT! (I actually watched Binbir Gece and Ezel, but I am going to say thank you on English, in order not to embarass myself.

For anyone interested, QSL depicts 30th of August - Victory Day, which occurs on 30th of August, commemorating end of the Battle of Dumlupinar, which ended at the same day. This battle was quite possibly the most decisive one for the Turkish War of Independence, which lasted from 1919. to 1922.

Radio Northern Ireland Broadcasting Tonight!

Radio Northern Ireland is broadcasting tonight!

After yesterday's broadcast, which was forcibly ended by Radio Capital's QRM, which is quite surprising, because Radio Capital never made problems, because of distance and propagation. Anyway, while still hearable, "Lebanon Crisis" comedy was heard and few great rock songs. Mostly rock, it was oriented on rock. (and metal)

Radio Northern Ireland is pretty new, amazing radio station, broadcasting via Channel 292 relay, mostly on Sundays, at 21:00 UTC. Frequency is 6070 kHz. It has all sorts of programs, which is ideal example of what a modern radio station looks like. It broadcasts the music of 60's, 70's, 80's and other eras. And it is amazing for listening while doing your business, doing your homework or...whatever. I found many great songs thanks to RNI. It is broadcasted by Jordan Heyburn, presenter and basically, the head of RNI. I warmly recommend to listen this station. My QTH is OK with RNI, it catches the signal pretty good, but if you are from USA, Brasil or other distant country, please do listen to RNI via this link.

Today's broadcast begins at 19:00 UTC and it ends at 21:00 UTC.

Shortwave, Longwave and Mediumwave stations that have been closed in 2015./are planned to be closed

I'm imagining that as a list of stations that went off air now. Of course, it will be more detailed in the future.

I do not plan to be disrespectful by publicly saying the names of those broadasters that shut down, I just want everyone to be reminded of the good times those stations provided us.

LIST :
American Forces Network - could be back on air, pretty unknown situation
Bayerischer Rundfunk - planned to shutdown at the end of September
France Bleu - planned to closed at the end of the year
France Info - planed to close at the end of the year
NPO Radio 5 Nostalgia - closed down
Radio France Inter - planned to close its 162 kHz frequency at the end of 2016.
Radio Maria - closed down, Lopik transmitter destroyed
Radio Pakistan - off air beacuse of sports complex building
Radio Serbia International  - it is all government's fault. I will never forgive that.
Radio Spaceshuttle International (planned to close down on 6th of September, however, other accounts say that it will close next week)

Russian and Spanish text from VOA Radiogram this weekend

Hello again,

Although this weekend's VOA Radiogram will be a test of the UTF-8 capabilities of the new AndFlmsg 1.2 app, you are also welcome to decode the program using Fldigi on a desktop or laptop PC.

For the Russian and Spanish text to display correctly, in Fldigi: Configure  > Colors & Fonts > Rx/Tx Character set to UTF-8.

From listeners in Europe (the farther east in Europe the better), I would appreciate mp3 recordings of the VOA Russian portion of this weekend's program.

The next VOA Radiogram is soon at 1600 UTC on 17870 kHz.

Thanks

Kim

Mighty KBC's infamous Minute of MFSK

I love it.

Mighty KBC, along with Voice of America is probably the only station experimenting with digital text and mode (DRM is not inlcuded here).

Minute of MFSK can be well heard in Europe and possibly US. I warmly suggest to listen the MFSK as well as the VOA Radiogram.

Around 02:30 UTC (which is too late for me) on 7375 khz, on 4th of September was the last time of MFSK.

I warmly recommend decoding Mighty KBC MFSK.

KBS World Radio (via Sofia)

KBS World Radio, transmitting via Sofia, was logged on 15th of July, 2015. It was monitored from 19:45 until 20:00 UTC. KBS was then at 5900 kHz - even though I tune in to 3955 kHz to listen their German service usually.

Sofia, considering the distance, is not that far away as other KBS transmitters (Kimjae, Dhabbaya), so it would be reasonable that SINPO would be 55555. Amazing reception, practically booming into Crotia.

Music and commentary in German heard, mostly by female announcer, "Musik verbindet" was the name of the programme listened during my listening. "Alltagskoreanisch" was also listened to.

Reception report was emailed the same day. QSL, including the nice schedule and stickers came in the mail on 4th of September, 2015.

VOA Radiogram, 5-6 September 2015, tests updated Android app

An updated version (1.2) of the AndFlmsg Android app is now available at http://www.w1hkj.com/vk2eta/

This new version has support for the UTF-8 character set. To give the AndFlmsg update a workout, this weekend’s VOA Radiogram will include news items in Russian and Spanish. The Spanish involves only a few letters with accents. Russian is more complicated, with its Cyrillic alphabet.

Here is the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 127, 5-6 September 2015, all in MFSK32 except where noted:

1:34 Program preview
2:44 New Russian Internet data law*

Destruction of Radio Maria's Lopik transmitter

This post came from World Of Radio's Facebook page, so I suggest you should check their Facebook page.

THE END FOR LOPIK 675 AM
One of Europe's most "widely heard" radio masts at Lopik was felled this morning at 10:45 local time. Charges of dynamite at the bases of the guy anchors and just ten second slater the lovely mast , which has carried many stations (Hilversum III, Radio 10 Gold, Carrow Classic Rock and more recently Radio maria) was lying across the ground. A sad day for AM radio.

Many thanks for Brad Lovett, who shared this link to WEBSDR Twente's Facebook group.

This 196 meter high transmitter's destruction is visible in this video. Feel free to check it out.

srijeda, 2. rujna 2015.

Logs for September 2nd, 2015.

4331 kHz - Good old 4XZ transmitting via Morse. SINPO 54555.

5680 kHz - Kinloss Rescue. Male voices heard. Very good reception of 34333. Hope everything is alright with people getting rescued and people who rescue.

8891 kHz - Iceland Radio. Decent reception, voices. SINPO 22222.

21700 kHz - Broadcast band, music heard, Flight Of The Bumblebee, suggested CNR jammer. SINPO 23233.

China Radio International - via Kashi-Saibagh

China Radio International, transmitting from Kashi-Saibagh, was logged on 18th of August, 2015. It was monitored from 20:21 - 20:59 UTC. CRI was on 9600 kHz at that time, and SINPO was 55555- without a doubt, one of the best transmissions ever heard.

Reports including the announcement of Busan Film Festival, One Direction's Teen Choice Awards nominations, Tianjin disaster, China's injection of 120 million juans into market were heard, as well as the interesting report about doxing.

Reception report was emailed the same day. Ying Lian, as always, responded me with a kind suggest to visit CRI's website. Little that they know, I visit their website every day, and they have a fantastic spectrum of news and other things which happen daily in world and China. Visit the website here.

ponedjeljak, 31. kolovoza 2015.

Logs for 31st of August/1st of September 2015.

675 kHz - Radio Maria shutdown.

747 kHz - NPO Radio 5 shutdown and RNE Radio 5 Cadiz going on air, NPO SINPO 55555, and RNE SINPO 21321.

4610 kHz - RAF Volmet transmitting on Northwood Meteo Fax frequency. It is believed that those two stations originate from RAF Akrotiri, so it might be frequency manager's fault? SINPO 54544.

6210 kHz - Radio Tango Italy, rock music, USB mode, decent signal, SINPO 33333.

11300 kHz - Mogadishu Radio MWARA AFI3, very good reception, male conversations, SINPO 45444.

17730 kHz - Radio Habana Cuba, male Spanish talk, good reception with a bit of noise, SINPO 43444.

Radio Free Asia (via Ulanbataar)

Radio Free Asia (transmitting from Ulanbataar) was logged on 20th of August, 2015. Its Korean program was monitored from 21:00 to 21:15 UTC, and it was logged on frequency of 7460 kHz.

Some sort of noise jamming, overall signal weakness and interference with RTTY which was passing by was, heard, making the SINPO 32233. Interval signal of RFA was heard, as well as musical pieces and Korean commentary.

Reception report was emailed to Radio Free Asia.

Nice QSL card for their 19th anniversary was received on 31st of August, 2015. Thanks, RFA!

subota, 29. kolovoza 2015.

Logs for August 29, 2015.

Those are the logs I have made for August 29th, 2015. I don't listen to my receiver when logging things, I use mine when I'm just listening about world...and because the coverage is pretty weak (5400-16000 kHz)

So, those are logs for today. Enjoy.

747 kHz - NPO Radio 5 Nostalgia, one of his last days of broadcasting, on 1st of September, they are going to close their MW transmitter. Enschede SDR is pretty close to NPO transmitter, so it is reasonably to SINPO to be 55555. Various bluegrass and country music playing.

1665 kHz - Unidentified Pirate. Playing "Two Tribes" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Possibly a pirate close to the receiver, SINPO 45444.

6210 kHz - Radio Scotland International, Dutch pirate. Music and Dutch talk. SINPO 32333.

6517 kHz - Voice of The People, crying woman heard and piano music, but not much because of North Korean jamming.

7700 kHz - FRS Holland. Playing "After The Gold Rush" by Neil Young and "Love The One You're With" by Stephen Stills. Very good signal. SINPO 54555.

8957 kHz - Shannon VOLMET. Female automated voice mentioning visibility, temperature and other factors. SINPO 34343.

9130 kHz - E11 numbers station. Message : 363/22 and off air. As people call it, that was nul message.

9300 kHz - SINPO, as well as the programme details parallel with 7700 kHz. FRS Holland.

iAm Radio

iAm Radio was logged on 28th of August, 2015. and it was listened to from 21:10 UTC from 21:25 UTC. iAm Radio was on 1350 kHz.

SINPO of iAm Radio throughout their whole listening was 44444, mainly because of interference with other MW stations. Considering propagation gets better at night, all of a sudden, everyone becomes hearable, and considering a lot of stations tune in to same frequency, MW is a mess on evenings.

Mainly songs, including amazing new wave The Cure-like songs and pop songs (bubblegum pop), were observed during my listening.

QSL was received on 19th of September, 2015. That came as a nice surprise! Thanks, iAm!!

Reception report was emailed to iAm radio :

e-mail addresses : report@iamradio.am,
info@iamradio.am

petak, 28. kolovoza 2015.

Rai Uno (transmitting via Napoli)

Rai Uno, transmitting from Napoli, was logged on 657 kHz, and it was monitored from 21:50 to 22:11 UTC. It was logged on 28th of August, 2015.

Considering propagation is really messed up, and it affected basically everything on my receiver, so I stopped listening to mine until propagation gets better. SDR has stronger antenna, so I've decided to listen SDR a couple of days.

Signal from Rai was pretty good during my listening, but a lot of interference from other stations transmitting on that frequency, with a SINPO of 43344.

Various music, including Jovanotti, infamous singer in Italy, which I suggest you should give him a listen. News were also observed during that time.

Reception report was emailed the same day.

e-Mail : raiway@rai.it

četvrtak, 27. kolovoza 2015.

RNE 5 Radio Barcelona (via Barcelona)

RNE Radio 5 Barcelona, transmitting maybe from Barcelona, was logged on 576 kHz, and it was monitored from 20:40 - 21:15 UTC,

Maybe weaker, but signal was somehow heard in Croatia, with SINPO of 24222, with a lot of interference with Radio Horizont, and it only got worse- last 15 minutes of listening, SINPO was 21322.

Mainly opera was observed from 20:40 until 21:00, then news after, time ticks were heard, as well as Radio Horizont's ticks, so it was a major confusion.

Reception report was emailed to RNE.

However, this message came.

"Estaré ausente de mi oficina hasta el día 13 de enero del 2.015"

EDIT (16/4/2016) - Guillermo, from the blog gsdx1, which is a fantastic blog, was kind enough to translate this for me.
It means : I will be out of my office until day 13 january 2015.

Thanks, Guillermo!

AWR DX Programs

Ever since Adventist World Radio was inaugurated way back more than 40 years ago, listeners in many countries on all continents have looked forward to participating in the annual DX contest.  Our historical records show that the first listener contest was conducted by the fledgling new AWR-Europe way back during the year 1972, just a few months after the official inauguration on October 1, 1971.
The longest series of annual DX contests began under the original Adventist World Radio in Asia, AWR-Asia in Poona India, and these were introduced just a few years later in 1977.  The first world winner in the annual contest in association with the original AWR DX program Radio Monitors International” RMI was Victor Goonetilleke, the well known international radio monitor living in Colombo Sri Lanka.  Since then, this well established AWR DX program has transmigrated from Asia to the United States, and the name likewise has evolved into a new name, the now familiarWavescan.
Throughout all of these intervening years, the annual winners list contains the names of well known international radio monitors living on all continents.  In addition, the long roster of regional winners over the years includes a host of names, international radio monitors living in up to a hundred different countries.  Any and all entrants have an equal possibility of winning one of the many awards that are available each year.
In fact, every entry in this years very unusual DX contest will be awarded a full size photocopy of two very early mediumwave QSL cards, dating way back to the very beginning of radio broadcasting in the United States.  In addition, four entrants will receive a very special QSL card; the QSL text will be attached to the only picture painted by the noted American artist Thomas Kincade that shows a radio antenna.  Other awards will include the World Radio TV Handbook for 2016; one of Jerome Bergs full volumes on the international history of shortwave radio; a copy of Dr. Bruce Cartys colorful new volume, Australian Radio History.
As Adventist World Radio enters into its 44th year of international radio broadcasting, we take pleasure in announcing our annual Wavescan DX contest, which comes to you under the title, The Worlds Most Unusual DX Contest.  In short, you are invited to design your own DX contest in whatever way you consider is best.
